温馨提示
Data is growing very fast. Today one can spot business trends, detect environmental changes, predict forthcoming social agendas and combat crime, by analyzing large data sets. However, this so-called ”Big Data” analytics is challenging because they have unprecedentedly large volumes. In this presentation, we describe a new approach based on the recent theory of compressive sensing to address the issue of processing, transporting and storing large data sets of enormous sizes gathered from high-resolution sensors and the Internet.

Preface
Welcome to the 2012 International Conference on Contemporary Computing
(IC3). This was the fifth conference in the series, held annually at the Jaypee
Institute of Information Technology, and organized jointly by the hosts and the
University of Florida, Gainesville, USA. The conference focuses on issues of con-
temporary interest in computing, spanning systems, algorithms and applications.
I hope you find the conference and these proceedings exciting and rewarding.
The IC3 call for papers received a respectable response, attracting 162 sub-
missions. I worked with the Track Chairs and the Program Committee to put
together an outstanding technical program consisting of the 42 regular papers
and seven short papers that appear in these proceedings. The submissions were
subjected to a rigorous peer-review process by an international team of about
95 experts serving as Technical Program Committee members. The Program
Committee was led by five Program Track Chairs, themselves representing an
eclectic mix of distinguished international experts – Albert Zomaya for Algo-
rithms, Dinesh Kaushik and Ravi Samtaney for Applications, and Omer Rana
and Yuanyuan Yang for Systems.
In addition to the contributed papers, the technical program was comple-
mented by eight distinguished keynote speakers:
• Chandrajit Bajaj, Professor of Computer Sciences at the University of Texas
at Austin
• Nageswara S.V. Rao, Corporate Fellow in Computer Science and Mathemat-
ics Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, USA
• M. Balakrishnan, Professor in the Department of Computer Science & En-
gineering, I.I.T. Delhi, India
• Sunil D. Sherlekar, Principal Engineer and Director of Parallel Computing
Research at Intel Labs in Bangalore, India
• H.T. Kung, William H. Gates Professor of Computer Science and Electrical
Engineering at Harvard University
• Ramesh Hariharan, Chief Technology Officer, Strand Life Sciences, Banga-
lore, India
• Alok Choudhary, John G. Searle Professor of Electrical Engineering and
Computer Science, Northwestern University, USA
• Ishwar Parulkar, CTO of Provider Access Business Unit of Cisco Systems,
Bangalore, India
I am grateful to the authors of all the submitted papers for choosing this confer-
ence to present their work. The conference would not be possible without your
efforts and valuable contributions. I am grateful to the Program Committee for
VI Preface
providing thoughtful and timely reviews. Their collective expertise allowed the
Track Chairs and myself to conduct a fair evaluation of contributions spanning
diverse areas of contemporary computer science research. I would like to thank
the General Chairs, Sartaj Sahni and Sanjay Goel, for giving me the opportunity
to lead this year’s technical program. They kept tabs on the timelines, and
provided guidance and invaluable assistance throughout the process. I would
also like to thank the rest of the IC3 team for all their support and assistance.
