Abstract
With the continuous development of society and the continuous improvement of the level of
science and technologies, the security and stability problem has become the focus of the world.
At present, the security systems, especially the dual energy X-ray inspection machines, play an
important role in ensuring the safety and stability. However, due to the technical limitations of
the security inspection system, the images collected by X-ray inspection system always have
many problems such as noise, edge blur and so on. The ability of image processing seriously
restricts the detection accuracy of the inspection system. In order to improve the quality of the
images and the detection accuracy of dangerous goods detection technology, the world has
increased the investment in technology research, especially the research of image processing
system.
Under this background, aiming at the fuzzy problem of the X-ray images, through the
analysis of the system composition and the imaging principle and technology, we obtained the
characteristics of the X-ray images. According to the processing requirements of the X-ray, an
image processing system based on FPGA is designed. We also simulate the image processing
system by using MATLAB programming tools. To sum up, the main innovations of this paper
are as follows:
1. Based on the analysis of the X-ray system composition and the imaging principle and
technique, we summed up the characteristics of the X-ray images. This laid the foundation for
the follow-up research work;
2. Aiming at the problems that the security images have such as noise, edge blur and so on,
an image processing system based FPGA is designed, and the system is verified by simulation
based on MATLAB;
3. Based on the analysis and summary of the existing image processing algorithms,
combined with the image features and security system imaging principle, we conducted image
processing algorithm simulation experiments based on the MATLAB, and proposed an image
processing algorithm combination which is more suitable for X-ray image at the best. The image
processing algorithm combination can improve the quality of the inspection images.
