In conclusion, the findings of this study suggest that the controversy over the man-
datory reassessment of exceptional children cannot be resolved as long as they are treated
as a homogeneous group. We should be asking which exceptional children need reassess-
ment, what type of reassessment is needed, and what specific purposes are to be served.
Our data suggest that young children and those with above-average IQ need reassess-
