The group sampling method is applied to power system reliability evaluation for the first time and combined with self-adapting important sampling algorithm, one new method is presented which has broad applicability due to need of a spot of system information known by us. Furthermore, an efficient sampler of the system failure state is put forward, which can fast extract system states in obedience to our need, and therefore the group sampling method can work more efficiently. Compared to other Monte Carlo methods, the results of the IEEE-RTS79 test system show that the proposed method is correct, effective and cannot be degraded.
