Additional Information
Purpose
This position will join the Advanced Computing Interfaces group at the Texas Advanced Computing Center
(TACC) working within the group to enable computational scientists of the world to more easily make the leap to
discovery using our high performance computing infrastructure through intelligent interfaces.
Essential Functions
We are looking for a talented, experienced, and inspired portal developer to join our team. The position will work
to extend applications using modern frameworks such as Django and Liferay. The specific duties of the TACC
Portal Developer include: Participate in the design and development of web components leading to a platform for
building powerful web applications; Interact and collaborate with researchers at UT and nationally to build a better
platform for web-based science; Research technologies and ideas for their applicability to projects; Utilize good
software development practices; Perform maintenance and provide support to software deployed in a production
environment; Communicate well in person, over email, and over instant messenger; Work well independently and
as part of a collaborative team; Communicate effectively with colleagues and collaborators; Be willing to
participate in writing publications for journals and presenting work at conferences.

Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information science, mathematics, or a computational science or
engineering discipline. Four years of relevant experience. Must have experience with the following: Developing
applications for the Liferay portal platform; Web friendly languages including Java, Python, JavaScript, PHP;
Using RESTful web services; Working with CMS platforms such as Liferay, Django, Drupal, Angular.js; Integrating
with relational and nonrelational database technologies including MySQL, PostGres, CouchDB, CouchBase,
MongoDB; Unit testing; Modern source control practices (git, svn); Build systems (make, ant, maven, grunt.js);
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and professional demeanor. Equivalent combination of
relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in computer science, information science, mathematics, or a computational science or
engineering discipline. Four years of relevant experience. In addition experience with the following is desired:
Mobile application development; Working with distributed systems; Cloud services; Responsive design.
Working conditions
May work around standard office conditions Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (
TRS
), subject to the position being at least 20
hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
