Safety Laser Scanner
SZ-V32N
Communications Manual
Introduction
This user’s manual describes handling, operation, and
precautionary information related to communication for the
SZ-V32N Safety Laser Scanner (“SZ-V
”
). Read this user’s
manual thoroughly before operating the SZ-V in order to
understand the device features.
Always keep this manual in a safe place for future reference.
Ensure that the end user of this product receives this user’s
manual.
Also for details relating to SZ-V except for the communication,
refer to “SZ-V Series Instruction Manual” and “SZ-V Series
User’s Manual”.

1 Before Use
1-1 Communications on the SZ-V
The SZ-V can read and write data by communicating with
PLCs and computers via Ethernet.
The data received from the communication
of UDP, EtherNet/IP
TM
or PROFINET cannot
be used for the safety control system. When
used in error, there is a possibility that the
operator of the device may be threatened
with injury or even death.
As the SZ-V has two Ethernet ports, connection by daisy
chain is possible. If connecting multiple SZ-Vs and Ethernet
devices, the number of man-hours required for wiring can
be reduced. Also, media redundancy protocol (MRP) for
PROFINET is supported. However, device level ring (DLR)
for EtherNet/IP is not supported.

Ethernet port functions
The two Ethernet ports built-in to the SZ-V work as an
AutoMDIX-compatible switching hub.
If using the SZ-V Ethernet port as a switching hub, note that
the switch operations are different, depending on the SZ-V
operating state.

Changing
communication
protocol
When the communication protocol
changes, the link is temporarily
suspended.

The SZ-V is compatible with the ve communication
methods below.
(1) Communicating with the SZ-V Congurator
It is possible to communicate with the SZ-V conguration
software (SZ-V Congurator) via Ethernet. It is also possible
to communicate with the SZ-V Congurator via USB.
For details on how to communicate via USB, see “SZ-V
Series User’s Manual”.
(2) Communicating with a PLC or computer via
UDP
The SZ-V measurement distance data and the error status
can be readout via UDP. This is useful when it is necessary
to continuously readout the measurement distance data of
all beams.
“2 UDP Communication” (Page 10)
(3) Communicating with a PLC or computer via
EtherNet/IP
The SZ-V measurement distance data and the error status
can be readout via cyclic and message communications.

(4) Communicating with a PLC or computer via
PROFINET
The SZ-V measurement distance data and the error status
can be readout via Cyclic and Acyclic communications.
“4 PROFINET Communication” (Page 36)
PC or PLC, etc.
with PROFINET compatible board
(5) Communicating with a PLC via PROFIsafe
The SZ-V is compatible with PROFIsafe communication.
When using PROFIsafe communication, see “5 PROFIsafe
Communication” (Page 45)
Safety PLC
It is possible to use some of the ve communication
protocols above at the same time, depending on the
communication protocol that is selected.
For example, one can receive the SZ-V measurement
distance data via UDP while connecting to the SZ-V from
another computer using the SZ-V Congurator.
However, it is not possible to connect to one SZ-V from
multiple computers at the same time using the SZ-V
Congurator.

1-2 Measurement Distance Data and
Beam Number
The SZ-V scans the internal optics and measures the
distance in increments of 0.1°.
(Increments of 0.2° if the Operating mode is High Speed
mode.)
The distance that the SZ-V measures can be readout via
UDP, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET communications. The
measurement distance data can be received between -5.2°
and 185.2° in increments of 0.2°.
(Increments of 0.4° if the Operating mode is High Speed
mode.)
Additionally, the -5.2° position is called the “0 beam”.

In Standard mode, the 185.2° position is the 952nd beam.

Measured value stabilization lter
To improve the stability of the measurement distance data,
a ltering process can be performed. This lter processing is
called the “measured value stabilization lter
”
.
When using the measured value stabilization lter, stability
improves, but response time decreases (High Speed mode:
+ Approx. 80 ms, Standard mode: + Approx. 160 ms).
The settings for the measured value stabilization lter can
be changed in the SZ-V Congurator.
For details, see the “SZ-V Series User’s Manual”.

Usable cables
When connecting the Ethernet cable to the SZ-V32N, make
sure to use the SZ-VNC03 to maintain its waterproof and
dustproof ratings.
Connect to the SZ-VNC03 or similar cable with the optional
cables recommended in the “SZ-V Safety Laser Scanner
Brochure” or cables that meet the specications below.
y
Category 5 or higher shielded twisted pair (STP) cable
y
Category 5 or higher unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable
In order to conform with EU regulations, a category 5e or
higher cable may be necessary.
For details, see “Precautions on Regulations and Standards
”
in the “SZ-V Series Instruction Manual”.
As the SZ-V Ethernet port supports AutoMDIX,
either a straight cable or a crossover cable can be
used.
How to connect the cable
Open the Ethernet cable cover on the display unit and
connect the SZ-VNC03. The SZ-VNC03 can be connected
to either one of the Ethernet ports.
“1-1 Communications on the SZ-V” (Page 2)
1-5 Setting the IP Address and Protocol
For an SZ-V that has not been assigned an IP address,
the IP address can be set with one of the following four
methods:
(1) Via USB (SZ-V Congurator)
(2) Via Ethernet (SZ-V Congurator)
(3) Via Ethernet (BOOTP/DHCP server)
(4) Via Ethernet (PROFINET IO Controller software)
When using the SZ-V Congurator, the IP address will be
set at the same time as the other communication related
settings.
If the IP Address needs to be set independently from the
other settings, use either method (3) or (4).
(1) Via USB
By connecting a computer with the SZ-V Congurator
installed on it to the SZ-V with a USB cable, the SZ-V IP
address can be set via USB.
1
Connect a computer and the SZ-V with a USB
cable
Use a USB cable (OP-51580 or OP-86941) to connect
the SZ-V to the computer.
