Exercise 1
Creating and Installing an OS Design SDK
In this exercise, you will create a Windows CE 5.0 SDK based on the OS
design created in the Introduction to Platform Building lab, and install the SDK
on your development system for use with Visual Studio .Net and eMbedded
Visual C++.
Ç Creating the OS Design SDK
1. From File menu, click Recent Workspaces and then click on MyOSDesign
to open the workspace from the previous lab.
2. On the Platform menu, click SDK then click New SDK to launch the SDK
Wizard. Click Next.
3. In the Product name that is displayed when .msi file runs box type
MyOSDesign SDK. In the Manufacturer name box, type your name, and
then click Next.
4. Select eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 support and .NET Compact
Framework, leaving other options not selected, and then click Next.
5. Click Close this wizard and continue configuring your SDK.
6. On the SDK Settings dialog, click on the Install tab. Be sure to UNCHECK
Launch MSI installation file after successful build checkbox. Then click
OK.

7. On the Platform menu, click SDK then Build SDK to initiate building the
SDK (a few seconds delay before the SDK Wizard appears is normal).
8. Examine the activity log on the SDK Wizard, which should conclude with:
Completed successfully
Committing database changes
MSI file construction completed. 0 error(s), 0 warning(s).
Export SDK to:
C:\WINCE500\PBWorkspaces\MyOSDesign\SDK\MyOSDesign_SDK.msi
9. Click Done.

10. Close down Platform Builder, eVC and ANY remote tools that may be
running.
11. Use the Windows Explorer to navigate to the folder
%_WINCEROOT%\PBWorkspaces\MyOSDesign\SDK\, and click on
MyOSDesign_SDK MSI file to start installation. Click Next.
12. On the EULA page, select Accept and click Next.
13. Enter your name and organization on the Customer Information page, and
then click Next.
14. Click Complete to install all features of the SDK.
