Abstract— Steganography deals with concealing the existence of messages in image files. In
this paper, we present an efficient method of hiding the information in image files and discuss
results obtained from evaluating the proposed steganographic method. The secret text is
embedded in RGB component of the cover image by using a combination of linear congruential
generator (LCG) and least significant bit (LSB) techniques making the hiding of information
more secure. Random pixels positions are picked using LCG and embedding is done by LSB
technique in 3R-3G-2B pattern.

1. Introduction
Steganography, meaning “covered writing”, includes a vast array of secret communications methods
that conceal the message’s very existence. Steganography hides the message so it cannot be seen and
make its meaning obscure to a person who intercepts it. The art of steganography dates to ancient times
and has many real life applications [4, 5]. Hiding the information into an image requires two files. The
first, an image file that will hold the hidden information, called the cover image. The second file is the
message, the information to be hidden. A message may be a plain text, cipher text, or another image.
When combined, results in a stego-image. Optionally, a stego-key (a password) may also be used to hide,
and then later decode the message. More commonly, the cover image may be a 24-bit BMP image or 24-
bit 256-color or gray scale images. Gray-scale images are preferred because the gray-shades change very
