Motor Selection Program OPERATION MANUAL

Section 1 Overview
A comment sometimes heard from customers is that the calculations involved in selecting motors are too com-
plicated and difficult. The Motor Selection Program solves this problem. This program selects the appropriate
motor from the mechanical structure in which the motor is to be used, and from the associated component
settings and operating patterns. Various functions have been incorporated into this program to make it easier
to select an OMRON Motor to aid in producing higher quality systems in response to this demand from our
customers.
Note: Here, "components" are the parts comprising the machine’s drive section, as well as controlled ob-
jects, and “component settings” are the size, mass, deceleration rate, and other properties of the
various components required to calculate inertia and torque.
・
Automatic Selection from OMRON Motors
OMRON Servomotor and Servo Driver model data is contained in a database, making it possible to select
the optimum motor without having to input data, such as the inertia and rated torque, for each model. Fur-
thermore, the Servo Drivers that can be combined with the selected Motor are automatically displayed in a
list, and the Drivers’ regeneration capacity is determined automatically.

echanical
Component Settings and Operating Patterns
Motor rated values, calculated load values, and their ratios are normally displayed in the Mechanical Com-
ponent Settings Input Window and the Operating Pattern Input Window. Even when the Motor to be used is
already determined, it is still possible to determine the load conditions and operating patterns that match that
Motor. For example, it would be easy to check technical considerations such as how much workpiece mass
could be increased or how much the acceleration or deceleration time could be shortened.

Section 3 Installation
This section explains how to install the program. The installation disk is used to copy the Motor Selection Pro-
gram to the hard disk.
Before Beginning Installation
The system requirements described in Section 2 Operating Conditions must be met to use the Motor Selection
Program. Check to be sure that Windows is properly installed, and that there is sufficient available disk space
and memory.
Beginning the Installation
1. Insert the Motor Selection Program CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
2. Select Run.
A window will be displayed to specify the filename.
3. Enter the filename to be executed (Q:\DISK1\SETUP.EXE).
Indicate the CD-ROM drive at the beginning of the filename. In this example, the CD-ROM drive is the Q
drive.
4. Click the OK Button to begin the installation. Click the Cancel Button to abort the operation.
