1. SCOPE
1.1 Puruose. This standard establishes the general eanitary
requirements for overseas meat and poultry slaughtering and
processing plants.
1.2 Application.
This standard ia applicable in all overseaa
areaa for meat and poultry slaughtering and proceaaing plants
supplying the U.S. Armed Forces.
Compliance with this standard
ia mandatory for the listing of plants in the Directory of
Sanitarily Approved Food Establishments for Armed Forces
Procurement (short title: “the Directory”) as provided in AR 40-
657/NAVSUPINST 4355.4/MCO P1011O.31 and AFR 161-32.
1.3 Oblectivea. This standard is intended to insure clean,
wholesome meat and poultry products that are free from chemical,
microbiological, and physical contaminants and to prevent the
transmission of foodborne disease to members of the Armed Forces.
1.4 Limitation.
This standard will not be used to determine
the capability of an establishment to produce or furnish products
or services that are in compliance with specifications or other
purchase descriptions.
