SERIAL NUMBER
------------------------
The serial number can be found on the sticker in your shipping package. The serial
number MUST be entered during the installation process. When entering the serial number,
spaces MUST be included, as shown on the serial number sticker.

DOCUMENTATION
--------------------------
An electronic version of the Magnetics Designer manual is installed as part
of the setup process. This version of the manual contains the most recent
documentation additions and corrections. The printed manual distributed with
Magnetics Designer describes the program in detail. However, the electronic
form of the manual may have more recent information. Periodic updates to the
electronic manual may posted on Intusoft's web page (http://www.intusoft.com), as needed.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE FULL AND DEMONSTRATION VERSION
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The demonstration version of Magnetics Designer is exactly the same as the
production version except for the following:
- The production version contains a core database with thousands of different cores.
The demo versions of the software contain limited library of cores.
- Only 2 windings are available within the demonstration software.
- The ability to save is not available within the demonstration software.
- The ability to produce reports is not available within select demonstration software versions.

WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 4.1.0
------------------------------------------
MAJOR FEATURES
- Ability to handle split bobbin/sector winding configurations.
- Winding Structure Image with DXF file export.
- New analysis algorithms give you calculation of magnetic fields and more accurate calculation of the AC losses.
- Sanity checks for the core database (geometry and material libraries) as they are read in. Warning message are
issued if problem are encountered. You can set cost to 1 in order to prevent core from being selected.
- Turns per layer for toroids now vary with layer rather than using a mean length and they are shown pictorially in
the Bobbin tab. Adjust margins for bobbin has been eliminated for toroids.
- A drive winding entry was added to define the winding number which has the source voltage applied. The Default is
winding 1, which may not be satisfactory, if winding 1 is a secondary winding.
BOBBIN TAB
- New winding structure image including the core, windings and insulation
- Magnetic field maps including current density direction.
- Exportable structure in the DXF file format.
- Specify the number of sectors and the sector dimensions.
- Can now designate the method of calculating fields for the AC resistance calculation: Heuristic Estimate or Field Simulation
TRANSFORMER/INDUCTOR TAB
- Expanded Transformer screen displays more winding information such as current density and winding weight.
- Specify the sector in which each winding should be placed.
- More versatile specification of the current waveform. A Fourier series is computed for the specified pulse waveform
duty cycle and rise/fall time.
- New Field Simulation algorithms provide you with a more accurate calculation of the AC losses.
- Silver and aluminum wire types are now supported.
- Calculation of leakage inductance and winding capacitance for sectors
- Calculation of Proximity losses for shield windings
- Specification of the minimum number of strands to account for multi-filar windings.
- Ability to specify the pitch for each winding.
- Ability to specify the Volt-Seconds (Bac) in order to account for saturating designs.
- Ability to enter the rise and fall time plus the duty cycle of the current waveform (in order to better account for AC losses).
FILE MENU
- New Design Wizard that eases data entry.
------------------------------
THE CORE DATABASE
------------------------------
In order for the Magnetics Designer library files, Mtl.lib and Geo.Lib, to be saved
in the correct location, the default directory for Microsoft Excel must be set to the
Magnetics Designer directory. This Option command is found under Excel's Tools menu.
After selecting the Options function, select the General tab and enter the Magnetics Designer
Directory as the Default File Location.
------------------------------
DESIGN EXAMPLES
------------------------------
The core database in the shipping software has been modified since these tutorial examples were created.
The updates improve numerical accuracy for selected cores. Therefore, your results may be different than
the results shown in the Design Examples.
Also note that the values which appear in the Core screen will vary, depending upon the units selection within
the Options tab. The default is cgs units.

.MAG FILES RUNNING UNDER MICROSOFT OFFICE 2000
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Microsoft Office 2000 uses a .mag extension for one of its applications and will associate all files with a .mag extension with their application upon installation. Because of this, when you attempt to open a file with a .mag extension, the Office 2000 application associated with that extension will open instead of Magnetics Designer.
A utility called Update Registry Settings has been included in your Magnetics Designer program group. This utility will re-associate your .mag files with the Magnetics Designer program.
To run this file and associate your .mag files with Magnetics Designer:
- Insert the Magnetics Designer CD into your CD ROM drive.
- Click on the Start button and select Programs/Magnetics Designer 4.1/Update Registry Setting. This will re-associate files with a .mag extension with Magnetics Designer.
If youd like your .mag files to remain associated with an Office 2000 application, do not run this utility, and select the No option when prompted during installation of the Magnetics Designer software.

RELEASE NOTES
-----------------------
1. Magnetics Designer inserts a 30-mil default bobbin for bobbin wound (non-toroid) geometries.
2. Toroid geometries are given no default bobbin dimensions. When you switch between bobbin wound and
toroid, a dialog displays asking if the bobbin data should be destroyed.
Old designs were optimized using different geometry d
