Component BC-I18 Internationalization (I18N)
________________________________________________________________________
Long Text
Symptom
You want to use a Japanese emperor , Islamic, or Farsi date format.
Other terms
Date, calendar, Nengo, Hijri, lunar, Persian
Reason and Prerequisites
Along side the Gregorian calendar Japan uses a parallel numbering system for years
according to the reigns of current emperors.
The Islamic lunar calendar is the offical calendar in many Islamic countries. Please
see note 882610 for details about the Islamic calendar.
The Farsi Calendar is the official Calendar of Iran. Please see note 945736 for
details about the Farsi calendar. Please note that it requires higher patches and
higher support packages.
Date formats can be selected in the user's default settings in Transaction 'SU01'.
Solution
IMPORTANT: The code corrections in this note do NOT contain the calendar
implementation. It is necessary to apply an appropriate support package
described below to activate the calendar implementation.
Technical Background
o The Japanese, Islamic, and Farsi calendar implementation in the SAP system is
for displaying dates only. Dates in the database are always stored in an
internal format which is independent of the calendar. (The internal format is
based on the Gregorian Calendar, but it never becomes visible on a screen). No
matter which calendar you use to display or input dates (Gregorian, Japanese,
Islamic, or Farsi), the internal format on the database is always the same. You
can key in dates in the Gregorian calendar, transport the data into another
system, and display them as Farsi dates, or vice versa.
o The Calendar implementation is part of the Support Packages mentioned in this
notes and note 945736. No additional implementation is necessary. Once the
support packages are implemented, every user can switch his default settings to
the non-Gregorian calendar without further actions.
