What is Telecommunication?
Greek tele, meaning far off, and Latin communicare, meaning to
share or impart, literally to make common. The science and
technology of transmitting voice, audio, facsimile, image, video,
computer data and multimedia information over significant distances
by the use of electromagnetic energy in the form of electricity, radio
or optics.

GSM Standardization & Controlling Bodies
GSM standard development is being performed by
the Special Mobile Group (SMG) under the European
Telecommunication Standard Institute (ETSI) that was initial known
as Conference of European Post and Telecommunications (CEPT).

In 1876 telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell and
first introduced in Philadelphia, USA. (Simplex Tranmission)

Century a German scientist Heinrich Rudolph
Hertz discovered wireless communication.
In 1897 first wireless transmission over 15KM distance was made
by Guglielmo Marconi in Bristol.
In 1901 overseas transmission was made by the same and named it
Radio.
First Mobile Service was launched in America that was FM Push
to Talk telephone system using 120Khz of RF bandwidth (Half
Duplex Mode).

In 1979 first cellular system was implemented by Nippon Telephone
and Telegraph (NTT) in Japan.
In 1982 first commercial cellular analog system was made
operative in Chicago.
Advance Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) was the 1

(1G) network for cellular communication. (PakTel and Instaphone
were 1

operator in Pakistan)
In 1992 first GSM fully Digital Cellular System was introduced in
Germany and France.
