Abstract
Ti substrate is coated with a new process of Mo permeating in the way of slurrying and powder
packing at different temperature. The structures of coat and topographies of surface and cross section
have been investigated. The distributions for Mo and Ti elements have been observed. The properties
of high temperature oxidation resistance have been measured. The results show that the kind of
composite material has a good potential for high temperature application.

1.Introduction
Metal permeating is a method of diffusing one or several kinds of metal elements into surface of
accessories resulting in a metallic layer called permeating layer or diffusion layer. The character of
metal permeating is that permeating layer is depended on the thermal diffusion process, which forms
the compound phase by the reaction between permeating element and substrate metal. The performance
of bonding is superior to the samples attained through mechanical combination, such as electric plating,
chemical plating and so on. The accessories, permeating layers of which are provided with different
components and structures from substrate, can acquire some special performances such as high
temperature oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance and wear resistance and so on. This kind of
material with excellent performance meets with more and more requirements in industry. The relative
researches have been sprung up. The metal permeating can be classified as solid-state permeating,
liquid-state permeating, gas-state permeating and ion permeating by contacted mediums. And
solid-state permeating can be further classified as powder packing permeating, solid-solid diffusion and
liquation bed.
In this paper, study new coating process of Mo permeating into Ti substrate, a kind of powder packing
permeating of solid-state permeating. This method has advantages of simple equipment and operation,
applying for the work pieces with complex shapes[1]. The following is the diagrammatic sketch of
powder packing permeating( Figure 1):
