SBAS comprises:
a) a network of ground reference stations that monitor satellite signals;
b) master stations that collect and process reference station data and
generate SBAS messages;
c) uplink stations that send the messages to geostationary satellites; and,
d) transponders on these satellites that broadcast the SBAS messages on
the GPS frequency.

GPS-like ranging signal
Signal specifications are defined at ICAO level which ensures
interoperabilityall over the world

Satellite declared ‘Not Monitored’ when SBAS can’t deliver data with required level
of integrity
Satellite declared ‘Don’t Use’ when SBAS can’t guarantee data integrity
Integrity of broadcasted messages
To prevent message degradation (receiver noise, interferences, multipath…)
Integrity guaranteed by CRC check
Estimate of integrity of broadcasted corrections
the accuracy of the correction sent by the ground segment is estimated (sigmas)
Residual errors for orbit/clock corrections delivered for each satellite through UDRE (User Differential
Range Error)
Residual errors for ionospheric corrections delivered for each grid point through GIVE (Grid Iono Vertical
Error)
These parameters ensure system integrity in nominal (fault-free) case and permit to
calculate protection levels (overbounding errors)
