1Objective
Thepropulsionlineaftmostbearinglifecanbeextendedandmaintenancecostreducedbyusingmore
comprehensiveshaftalignmentcalculationmethodsfortheloadonthebearing.Thisguidelineisa
supportingdocumentfortheDNVShaftalign(2)classnotation.
Theobjectiveofthecomputationalfluiddynamic(CFD)calculationistoestimateandassessthemaximum
shaftforcesandmomentsinducedbyhydrodynamicpropellerloadswhichshallbeusedasinputtotheshaft
alignmentanalysisatdesignandoff-designconditions.
2Scope
TheclassguidelineprovidedetailsofmethodsusedtocarryoutviscousCFDcalculationstopredictthe
hydrodynamicpropellerloadsandfiniteelementanalysis(FEA)toestimatethepropellershaftaftbearing
contactpressure.Inaddition,analternativeforaftbearinglubricationcriteriaforexceptionalaftbearing
designsandlogicforlaserbasedmeasurementareprovided.
3Application
ThisguidelinemaybeappliedtocalculatepropellerforcesandaftmostbearingpressuresfortheDNVrules
forshaftalignclassnotation,Shaftalign(2),seeDNV-RU-SHIPPt.6Ch.2Sec.10.
