ABSTRACT
Titanium alloy owns low density, high specific strength and excellent high
temperature and corrosion resistant properties, so it has been widely used in many fields,
such as, aerospace, ships, metallurgy, chemical industry, electric power. With the rapid
development of economic
, the applying field and consumption of Ti alloy will be
continuously increased.
Because the increasing requirement on the aerospace field especially in aircraft
engine, and the VAR’ inherent disadvantages on melting process which can not elimate
the HDI and LDI effectively, the technology of EBCHM has been developed. EBCHM
has three melting zones: raw materials melting zone, fine melting zone and
solidification/crystallization zone.By using the theory of high temperature digestion and
density separation, the HDI and LDI can be removed. Therefore, it can produce titanium
alloy ingots without any inclusions.
This paper has discussed the process of making pure titanium ingots using
EBCHM. It has discussed the processing parameters’ (raw materials, melting parameter,
electron beam canning pattern and melting rate) influence on the ingots’ component and
quality. Finally, the reasonable process will be confirmed and the qualified ingots which
meet the requirement of GB/T 3620.1—2007 will be produced.
In order to produce fine pure titanium ingots and keep the chemical component
homogeneours, it focus on the control of raw materials and improving the ingot’s
homogeneity:
the defective materials in the experiments are dryin and without polluted;
using U box and binding makes electrodes; using binding core materials and putting
defective materials and electrodes blocks on horizontal direction uniform.The result
shows that: the homogeneity of ingots has been improved.
In order to improve ingots’ metallurgical quality, different scans have been taked
