Abstract
This paper mainly studies the resource management architecture and the optimal
selection mechanism of resource management strategy in cognitive WLANs. Firstly, the
basic concepts, development of cognitive wireless network, IEEE 1900.4 architecture
and a corresponding network management framework are introduced. According to the
definitions in IEEE 1900.4 standard, a cognitive WLANs resource management system
is studied and designed, including the definition of entities’ functions and the format of
the messages which are transmitted between the entities. Then a detail process of
managing WLAN resources is proposed and a test of information cost is made. Second,
the problem of multiple radio resource management strategies coexistence in WLANs is
analyzed. To improve the resource utilization as much as possible, we propose an
optimal resource strategy selection method for choosing different strategies to maximize
the throughput of WLANs in different network environment. Simulation results turn out
that using the proposed method, the throughput of WLANs can be improved more than
all other strategies. Finally, a cognitive WLANs resource management simulation
platform is designed and constructed.
