(Content-based
(Hybrid

Abstract
With the advent of the digital age, online information recommendation systems play
an increasingly important role in our daily lives. This paper conducts an in-depth analysis
of the problems with existing online information recommendation systems with the aim
of further improving their efficiency and user satisfaction, while ensuring data security
and privacy protection. First, the paper provides a detailed review of the working
mechanisms of online information recommendation systems, including various types
such as Content-based Filtering, Collaborative Filtering, Hybrid Systems, and Context-
aware Recommendations, highlighting the trade-off between personalized services and
user privacy. Next, the paper elaborates on the various issues in this field, such as data
privacy leaks, recommendation algorithm biases, and over-reliance on popular
information, which not only affect user experience but could also profoundly influence
user information consumption habits. Following this, the paper analyzes the root causes
of these problems, including algorithmic flaws, improper collection and use of user data,
and the impact of profit models on algorithm accuracy. To address these issues, the paper
proposes a series of potential improvements, such as strengthening user data privacy
protection, optimizing recommendation algorithms to reduce biases and over-reliance,
and achieving transparency and democratization of recommendation algorithms. Through
empirical data collection, algorithm simulation and testing, and case studies on platforms
like YouTube, Amazon, Netflix, and Spotify, the effectiveness and feasibility of the
proposed improvements are validated. Lastly, the article summarizes research findings,
forecasts future development trends for recommendation systems, and suggests possible
improvements for the paper's limitations and potential areas for in-depth research.
Overall, the paper provides a comprehensive perspective on the problems associated with
online information recommendation systems and their solutions, aiming to ensure that
technology development better serves society and individuals, maintaining safety and
fairness. Although the depth and originality of the research are within the undergraduate
level, the use of basic data processing skills and critical thinking of relevant theories
sufficiently meet the requirements for an undergraduate thesis.
