VLAN Configuration for HP ProCurve Switch 4108gl
The purpose of this document is to guide the user through basic VLAN configuration using the
web interface as well as the command menu.
Accessing the switch via the web interface requires one of the ports to have an IP address. You
can manually set the IP and connect directly to the switch using a crossover cable, or allow the
port to obtain an IP address automatically from the DHCP on the backbone.
IP Configuration
To configure the IP address of a port on the switch:
1) Connect a serial cable
2) to a debugger
3) Open a HyperTerminal session and use the following settings
a) Baud rate: 9600
b) Flow control: None
4) Once connected, type the following commands in order:
a) config // configuration mode
b) vlan # (# is usually 1 by default) // selects vlan 1
c) ip address dhcp-bootp // configure switch to obtain IP from DHCP
d) show ip // shows IP of switch as seen on the network
5) Use this IP to connect to the switch through the network
6) Once done with the web interface, change the settings of the port to its original state for
normal operation.
