LECCO SQL Expert for SQL Server README (Version 2.5.0) ============================================================ This file provides useful information during installation and is advisable that you spare a few minutes reading it. It is important you read and understand fully the license agreement before continuing with this installation. This file is divided into the following sections: Overview System Requirements Installation Patch Installation Getting Started Common Problems Multi-Languages Uninstall Contacts Overview -------- So what is LECCO SQL Expert? LECCO SQL Expert for SQL Server is a syntactical SQL tuning tool for Windows. LECCO SQL Expert can identity potentially problematic SQL statements and rewrite them according to your database structure. It saves time and effort of developers in producing the most optimal SQL statements. LECCO SQL Expert is also available for Oracle and DB2 UDB. System Requirements ------------------- You should have the following hardware and software in place before installing LECCO SQL Expert. · Windows 95/98/2000, Windows NT 4 or above · 486DX or above · Minimum 16MB RAM · 50MB hard disk space . Connection to SQL Server via ODBC (ODBC driver for SQL Server v3 or above) or DB-Library If you are unsure of your PC configuration, you may quit the installation process at anytime and re-install once details have been confirmed. Installation ------------ To install LECCO SQL Expert check that your computer configuration satisfies the System Requirements section, if your answer is 'yes' then you are ready to go. For patch updates please refer to the Patch Installation section. If you have previously installed LECCO SQL Expert Pro for SQL Server you need to uninstall first before installing this version. Please refer the Uninstall Procedure section. It is recommended that you exit all Windows applications before running the LECCO SQL Expert setup. · Follow the autorun set program or launch the setup.exe program. . Select the desire database to start installation. . Please read the license agreement. If you accept the license agreement, click YES. . The following components are installed with LECCO SQL Expert: - Application Files (LECCO SQL Expert program) - Help Files (On-line Help & documentations) - SQL Extract Utility (LECCO SQL Extraction for PowerBuilder) If TYPICAL installation is selected then all of the above components are installed apart from the utility program. If you want to choose your installation components then select CUSTOM installation. · Installation will begin, the system will prompt you to enter your user information, type in your name, company name and serial number. You will find the serial number within the package. Press NEXT to continue. · Follow the instructions on the screen. Patch Installation ------------------ You must already have LECCO SQL Expert version 2 installed on your PC. Make sure you are not running LECCO SQL Expert when installing the patch file. Please follow the instructions below: . Make sure the patch correspond with the edition and database version installed. . Run the patch program (eg: sqlexp_pro_sqlserver_patch221.exe). . On the WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box, click OK. . On the next dialog box, select a temporary directory for files to be uncompressed to (eg: C:\windows\temp). Make sure that the Overwrite files without prompting and the When done unzipping open: patch.exe checkboxes are selected. . Click Unzip. The files will be copied to the selected temporary directory. Once completed a message is displayed showing the number of unzipped files, click OK. . The patch.exe program will automatically run. Click OK on the patch update dialog box to continue installation. . Select the path of LECCO SQL Expert (eg: \Program Files\LECCO\SqlExp\SQLSERVER\PRO.) Click OK. . The program will now replace some of the files installed on the LECCO SQL Expert directory. Once completed, the Installation Log is shown. Check that the installation is successfully completed. . Click on the Exit button to finish. Getting Started --------------- To launch LECCO SQL Expert simply carry out the following procedures : · Open the (eg: LECCO SQL Expert Pro for SQL Server or the name you specified in the installation) folder. · Click on the icon labelled LECCO SQL EXPERT. When LECCO SQL Expert starts, it will present you with a logon window. Enter your SQL Server logon name, password and server alias/DSN. Refer to the Common Problems section or program manual if connection to the database fails. Once LECCO SQL Expert is connected to the database it is ready to go. 7. Common Problems "Failed to connect to SQL Server." Check that other SQL Server products (e.g.: Query Analyzer) connect successfully to the database with the same login name, password and server alias/DSN. If connection fails, check with your database administrator. "Failed to initialize the application." When running LECCO SQL Expert under NT Server you may encounter a "Failed to initialize the application" error message. This error message indicates that the current user does not have certain permissions within the Registry. "LECCO SQL Expert is not working properly." If you are having problems running LECCO SQL Expert after logging onto your database, your PC may be lacking in resources. You may try the followings to rectify this problem: - Freeing memory and disk space. If you have other applications opened then close them; for some applications you may need to restart your PC. We recommend that you have at least 50MB of free disk space. - Increasing virtual memory. Double click on the System icon from the Control Panel. Select the Performance tab page and click on the Virtual Memory button under the Advanced Settings group. Select the radio button marked "Let Windows manage my virtual memory settings (recommended)", or increase the maximum value for the virtual memory setting. - Lowering the amount of graphic hardware acceleration. Double click on the System icon from the Control Panel. Select the Performance tab page and click on the Graphics button under the Advanced Settings group. Try lowering the amount of acceleration for your graphic hardware. Restart your PC for changes to take place. Multi-Languages --------------- LECCO SQL Expert supports multi-languages for data. When you first run LECCO SQL Expert you are given an option to choose the language you want your data to be displayed corresponding to your native language of Windows and database. Note: Interface will remain in English. Not all languages has been fully tested. Uninstall --------- To uninstall LECCO SQL Expert, simply use the Add/Remove Programs utility in Windows. Make sure you close down LECCO SQL Expert before continuing with the following procedures : · Click the START button, point to SETTINGS, and then click on CONTROL PANEL. · Double click the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS icon. · On the INSTALL/UNINSTALL tab, click on the version of LECCO
