JDE API reference book - B9 version
Application Program Interface The OneWorld published Application Programming Interface (API) set is a collection of functions or routines that perform predefined tasks. The API set allows third party applications to interface with OneWorld applications. The published API set makes it easy for you to develop solutions for customers without learning the complexities of OneWorld. The Configurable Network Computing (CNC) architecture shields you, the developer, from database or platform specific syntax or the location of your database. For example, you do not need to know database specific Structured Query Language (SQL) to use the JDEBASE APIs for data manipulation. Because you build your products on the same architecture as the OneWorld applications, they will integrate seamless. Businesses will benefit from a more extensive set of solutions while maintaining a high degree of integration. The result is that the APIs make the OneWorld product an open platform independent system. OneWorld embraces the major standards that ensure the ongoing viability of your company抯 solution and its compatibility with other tools. Some of the standards OneWorld complies with include ANSI SQL, MAPI, OLE, TCP/IP, as well as the industry抯 major languages, such as C, C++, and Java. J.D. Edwards provides the Published API set as online help. Use the help file to access information on the OneWorld tools APIs as well as definitions on events.
