Course Description
Intended for experienced Informix Dynamic Sever system administrators interested in advancing their
troubleshooting and monitoring skills, this course covers advanced Informix Dynamic Sever topics. Learn
advanced skills to monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve performance in your Informix Dynamic
Sever. Learn how to use various diagnostic utilities and interpret the output. Gain an in-depth
understanding of the relationships between threads, sessions, and virtual processors. Learn valuable
troubleshooting techniques by exploring the three portions of shared memory. Learn how to take
advantage of information stored in SMI tables.
Objectives
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
Identify the elements of an IBM Informix Dynamic Server page
Define the terms that identify the elements of a dbspace
List and describe the root dbspace reserved pages
Explain the purpose of the tblspace tblspace and identify the elements of a partition page
Explain the purpose of IBM Informix Dynamic Server tblspaces
List and describe the types of index node pages and their components
Explain the architectural differences between fragmented and non-fragmented tables and indexes
Describe the components of blobspaces and sbspaces
Explain how virtual processors and threads are used in a database server
Describe how data is stored and managed in shared memory
Explain how the physical and logical log files are used in the fast recovery process
Prerequisites
To maximize the benefits of this course, we require that you have met the following prerequisites:
IBM Informix Dynamic Server Administration (course #846)
A minimum 3 months experience using IBM Informix Dynamic Server is required;
6 months of experience is preferred
