Instructor Notes for RH253-RHEL5u4-en-1-20090924
Slide 1.12: Pre/Post-Assessments

Be sure to move the students along during the pre-assessment in particular. It is expected that
students “not” know most of the answers before the lecture and lab, but many will be tempted to
“look up” the answers. Only give them two or three minutes during the pre-assessment.
Interactive 1.1: Mid-lecture Interactives

The purpose of interactives is to keep the students engaged during lectures. This is done in two
types of interactives:
1. Simple, short interactives that are looking for feedback from the student with questions being
asked. Do not expect, nor wait for, all students to provide an answer.
2. Traditional instructor demos that now have the students following along. Ideally, the instructor
will have a spare machine on which to perform the same steps as the students. In some
cases, these were created by shifting old labs to interactives.
In all cases, the instructor can take an opportunity to further clarify options and features while
students are looking at the live product in action. Just be sure to have a good understanding of the
interactive so as to not conflict with its intent.
Slide 1.14: Classroom Network

Take care to note that the first virtual machine is now called serverX, even though the IP address
will be 192.168.0.X+100.
The RH133, RH253 and RH300 courses currently get the virtual machines installed on the student
workstations by installing an anacron job onto the machines during their initial install. The correct
anacron job(s) are created because of the existence of a file, /kickstart/course, on the
instructor machine, containing the course name, prior to the installation of the student machines.
