• Optical MEMS for Chemical Analysis and Biomedicine 2016

© The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2016 This book intends to represent some most recent progress in optical MEMS research. On the applications of optical MEMS, besides the more traditional ones, this book also has a special focus on chemical analysis and biomedicine, both fields experiencing rapid growth in recent years. Of course, owing to the limited space, one book cannot cover all the exciting progress made in optical MEMS; hence, the topics were carefully selected in order to reflect the progress I personally deem urgent to be reported. Some topics covered are already established, but need an update to reflect the state of the art in the literature. Some others are new and need to be presented. The readers might note that, although the chapters cover seemingly diverse topics, the emphasis on optics and miniaturization remains strong and ties the discussed research works together.

  • Virtual Reality :Simulating and Enhancing the World With Computers 2003

Copyright © 2003, 1998 by Sean M. Grady Virtual Reality: Simulating and Enhancing the World with Computers is a revised and expanded edition of Virtual Reality: Computers Mimic the Physical World, which was published in 1998 as part of the Science Sourcebooks series. The older book reflected the field of virtual reality at it was at the beginning of 1997. This new edition catches up with the developments that have taken place in the five years that followed, including the problems VR businesses encountered as a result of the technology boom-and-bust cycle that took place during the last few years of the twentieth century. As in the earlier edition, this book will provide an overview of virtual- reality’s history, the tools and techniques used to mimic the physical world, the fields in which VR is being used, and some of the obstacles that VR’s supporters have had to overcome. Middle- and high-school students who already have taken part in immersive computing will find Virtual Reality a useful tool for learning how the technology came to be and where it might go in the future. For students who have not had any experience with virtual environments, this book will serve as a technological travel guide, pointing out some of the landmarks in this particular realm of computing. Technologies allied to VR, such as augmented reality and wearable computers, also will make an appearance, as will some of the philosophical issues raised by people outside and within the field who question the paths VR researchers have followed.

  • Energy-Energy-Efficient VCSELs for Optical Interconnects 2016.pdf

© Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016 VCSEL 垂直腔面发射激光器 Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser The present Ph.D. thesis represents the first systematic investigation of the dynamic energy efficiency of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers for optical interconnects. A systematic study of the static and dynamic properties of GaAs-based VCSELs emitting at 850 and 980 nm is used to derive general rules for achieving energy-efficient data transmission with VCSELS. These rules are applicable to all oxide-confined VCSELs at any wavelength and are verified in data transmission experiments demonstrating error-free transmission at 25 Gbit/s using only 56 fJ/bit, currently a world record. This value is a factor of two below the request of the ITRS road map for 2015. Energy efficient operation is demonstrated for distances of up to 1000 m, at elevated temperatures up to 85 °C, and at higher rates of 40 Gbit/s. Long transmission distances will be needed in next generation data centers as they continue to increase in size. Stable operation at high temperatures, which occur regularly inside computers, eliminates the need for active cooling, additionally reduces power consumption, and thus again increases energy efficiency. Reading this thesis is a must for all scientists and engineers interested in information technologies and concerned about finding superior technical solutions that are both economic and ecological. • High-speed-High Speed VCSELs for Optical Interconnects 2011

Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2011 VCSEL 垂直腔面发射激光器 Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser This book, based on his Ph.D. thesis, discusses therefore all relevant design issues, the technologies required and high speed/data rate measurement techniques up to the 40 Gbit/s reached for short-wavelength VCSELs in a way understandable for nonspecialists. I wish you an interesting and enlightening time reading the book. Berlin, August 2010 Prof. Dieter Bimberg

  • VCSELs Fundamentals Technology and Applications of **-Emitting Lasers 2013

Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013 VCSEL 垂直腔面发射激光器 Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) are firmly established in the laser diode market for about 15 years meanwhile. It took about 17 years before these devices were commercialized. Multimode fiber optical networks with data rates in the 1 Gbit/s range were the initial market. In 2004, VCSELs were first incorporated in optical computer mice. Today, these two application areas approximately equally share a production volume of almost 100 million units per year. In future, high volumes can be expected also, e.g., for diverse sensing and illumination purposes, the latter using high-power laser arrays.

  • Snake Charming—The Musical Python 2017

Iain Gray © Springer International Publishing AG 2017 This book is an innovative introduction to Python and its audio-visual capabilities for beginning programmers, a resource for expert programmers and of interest to anyone involved in music. It is structured around four extensible, audio-visual projects on music and sound. The beginner will appreciate the ‘need to know’ basis of the presentation of Python for each project. Expert programmers will be able to go straight to the project code, run it and then extend it as they see fit. Musically interested readers will enjoy the historical and theoretical material at the beginning of each project, and it may even tempt them to try some coding—it is not too difficult! The projects are all self-contained but can be extended to incorporate aspects of the others. Above all, the book is suited for self-study, which should be playful (pun intended)!

Prateek Joshi Build real-world Artificial Intelligence applications with Python to intelligently interact with the world around you First published: January 2017 Production reference: 1230117 Published by Packt Publishing Ltd. Livery Place 35 Livery Street Birmingham B3 2PB, UK. ISBN 978-1-78646-439-2 This book is focused on artificial intelligence in Python as opposed to the Python itself. We have used Python 3 to build various applications. We focus on how to utilize various Python libraries in the best possible way to build real world applications. In that spirit, we have tried to keep all of the code as friendly and readable as possible. We feel that this will enable our readers to easily understand the code and readily use it in different scenarios.
