Sets of numbers
R, N, Z, Q
We shall typically work with real numbers, whose set is denoted by R
The set of real numbers contains important subsets:
natural numbers, denoted by N = {0, 1, 2, 3, ...}
integer numbers, denoted by Z = {. . ., −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3, . . . }
rational numbers, denoted by Q:
a rational number can be written as ratio m/n of two integers,
with n 6= 0
