A business process consists of a set of activities, performed
by their relevant roles or collaborators, to intentionally achieve a
set of common business goals.
Business processes are the core assets of any enterprise,
covering many aspects in industry such as design, engineering,
manufacturing, purchasing, physical distribution, production
management and supply chain management
E.g. production line of a car manufacturer, enrolment process at
a university, insurance claim handling process, etc.

A number of questions arises when describing a process:
• Which steps are really necessary?
• Who should do them?
• Should they be kept in house or outsourced?
• How they should be done?
• What capabilities are needed?
• What results do we expect and how will they be monitored?
