About mvp
=========
mvp is an unobtrusive installation manager for MVTec software products.
It provides a catalog of products that can be installed, and handles the
download and installation process. In its initial release, it is
intended as the means of installing the MVTec Deep Learning Tool.
mvp operates in two modes:
1) User mode
Double-click mvp.exe to run it with user permissions. In this mode,
software is installed for yourself in a configurable directory
(default location: %USERPROFILE%\MVTec).
2) Admin mode
Right-click mvp.exe and select "Run as administrator". In this mode,
software is installed for all users of the system (default location:
%ProgramFiles%\MVTec).
In either mode, a web server is started and your default browser should
open the address http://localhost:8000 automatically. If your browser
does not come up, enter the above address in any HTML5-compliant browser
on your system.
Windows Defender Firewall warning
=================================
Upon the first start of mvp, the following warning may be issued by
Windows Defender:
"Windows Defender Firewall has blocked some features of this app"
You can safely click "Cancel" unless you intend to access the mvp web
server from another machine in your network. In that case, click "Allow
access". For security reasons, mvp only listens to localhost (the
machine it is running on) by default. To accept connections from other
machines, replace "localhost" with your machine name in the
configuration settings of mvp (wrench icon).
Updating installed software products
====================================
If new versions of a product installed with mvp are released, mvp can
update your installation. Click "Refresh from server" on the catalog
page to keep mvp's database up-to-date.
Connecting through an HTTP proxy
================================
If your system does not support a direct connection to the internet, you
can instruct mvp to connect through an HTTP proxy. Open the
configuration settings (wrench icon), enter your proxy into the "HTTP
Proxy" field, and confirm your change with Enter. Note that mvp has to
be restarted to actually use the proxy settings.
Notes about offline usage
=========================
Once a particular package has been downloaded, it is kept in a local
repository, and the corresponding software can be installed without
requiring an internet connection.
