Installing Grapher
==================
Golden Software does not recommend installing Grapher 5 over any
previous version. Grapher 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 can coexist on the same
system as long as they are installed in separate directories.
To install Grapher 5 under Windows XP or Windows 2000, you need
to be logged onto the machine with administrator rights for that
computer.
Installing Grapher on a Local Drive from CD:
--------------------------------------------
1. Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. The Setup program
automatically begins on most computers.
2. Choose the "Install Grapher" option from the screen and setup
will begin.
If the Setup program does not automatically start, double-click on
the My Computer icon on your desktop. Open the CD-ROM drive
which contains the Grapher disk by double-clicking on the CD-ROM
icon. From the CD-ROM folder find and double-click on Autorun.exe
to launch Grapher's Setup program. Select "Install Grapher" and
setup will begin.
====================
Network Installation
====================
Network administrators can place the Grapher 5 installation files in a
networked file server directory for shared distribution and/or execution.
First, the Grapher Setup files must be placed on the networked file
server. How this is done depends on how you received the Grapher product
(on CD-ROM or downloaded from www.goldensoftware.com):
FROM CD: Manually copy the entire contents of the CD's "Grapher Setup"
directory tree into a shared directory on a server that workstations
wanting to install Grapher 5 can access.
BY DOWNLOAD: Run the "server installation" program you downloaded and
follow the Installation Wizard's instructions.
(Setting read-only access to the network share is highly recommended to
prevent accidental deletion of shared files by workstation users.)
Once the Grapher Setup files are available via a network share, one must
go to each local machine, connect to the network share and install
Grapher for use on that machine. Run one of these two installation
programs, depending on the type of installation desired:
Setup.exe
---------
Will locally install the Grapher program and all selected options so
Grapher may be executed on the local machine without having to be
connected to the network share. [The result is the same as if Grapher
had been installed from the distribution CD at the local machine.]
[Administrator: To disallow this type of installation, simply delete
"Setup.exe", from the file server.]
InstallClient.exe
-----------------
Will locally install only a few user-specific files and leaves most of
the Grapher program and associated files on the network server. The
local machine must be connected to the network share in order to use
Grapher.
[Administrator: To disallow this type of installation, delete
"InstallClient.exe", "InstallClient.ini" and "GrapherClient.msi" from
the file server.]

Troubleshooting Installations
=============================
If you are experiencing errors with the installation, please install
Grapher with error logging.
To create an installation error log:
1. Go to Start | Run.
2. For a local installation, type:
"[drive letter]:\[path]\Setup.exe" /L* "[drive letter]:\[path]\G5.log"
For a networked client installation, type (all on one line):
"[drive letter]:\[path]\InstallClient.exe" /L*
"[drive letter]:\[path]\G5.log"
Replace the [drive letter] and [path] with a drive letter and path
on your computer.
3. Click OK. After the installation process terminates, the log file
is created in the path you specify. Please send the log file to
technical support along with the installation message text.

Updating Grapher
================
Do NOT install a newer FULL version of Grapher 5 over a previous
version of Grapher 5. This will not update the software. (i.e. Do
not install 5.01 over 5.00.) If for some reason you need to do a FULL
installation of Grapher 5, uninstall the previous version before
installing the updated version.
