Using the Instrument
Control Toolbox Block
Library
Instrument Control Toolbox includes a Simulink
®
interface called the
Instrument Control Toolbox block library. You can use the blocks of this
library in a Simulink model to communicate with an instrument.

This chapter describes how to use the Instrument Control Toolbox block
library. The Instrument Control Toolbox block library consists of six blocks:
• Query Instrum ent — Query the instrument for data.
• To Instrument — Send data to the instrument.
• TCPIP Receive — Receive data over a TC P /IP network.
• TCPIP Send — Send data over TCP/IP network.
• UDP Receive — Receive data over UDP network.
• UDP Send — Send data over UDP network.
The Instrument Control Toolbox block library is a tool for sending live data
from your model to an instrument, or querying an instrument to receive live
data into your model. You can use blocks from the block library with blocks
from other Simulink libraries to cre ate sophistica t ed mode ls.
To use the Instrument Control Toolbox block library you require Simulink,
a tool for simulating dynamic systems. Simulink is a model definition
environment. Use Simulink blocks to create a block diagram that represents
the computations of your system or application. Simulink is also a model
simulation environment. Run the block diagram to see how your system
behaves. If you are new to Simulink, read Getting Started with Simulink in
the Simulink documentation to better understand its functionality.
For more detailed information about the blocks in the Instrument Control
Toolbox block library, see Blocks — Alphabetical List . For example for using
the Instrument Control Toolbox block library, see “Building Simulink Models
to Send and Receive Data” on page 16-6.

at the MATLAB prompt. MATLAB opens the browser w indow. The left pane
lists available block libra ries, with the basic S i m ulink library listed first,
followed by other libraries listed in alphabetical order under it. To open the
