CHAPTER 8: INSTALLING MICROSOFT DYNAMICS
AX 4.0 ENTERPRISE PORTAL
Objectives
The objectives are:
• Describe the usage and purpose of the major components that
comprise Enterprise Portal
• Install and create and Enterprise Portal Web site.
Introduction
Microsoft Dynamics™ AX 4.0 provides a set of built-in Web applications
integrated with Microsoft SharePoint Services Framework and collectively called
the Enterprise Portal.
The Enterprise Portal contains two components:
• A SharePoint integrated, Web-based architecture
• A set of role-based applications customized for Web self-service and
e-commerce transactions
The Enterprise Portal provides Web-enabled access to business logic and data
stored in Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0. From the Enterprise Portal, users can:
• Manage documents attached to records in the Microsoft Dynamics
AX 4.0 database
• Search for data stored in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services
• Use SharePoint announcements, surveys, and discussion lists to
collaborate with customers, business partners, and other employees

Scenario
Enterprise Portal can expand any of the existing functionality of the Microsoft
Dynamics AX 4.0 client such as placing orders or checking shipping status. This
is an important benefit for clients that perform daily business processes with
Enterprise Portal instead of using the Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 Client.
Users will connect to Enterprise Portal with a Web browser through the Internet
or local intranet. After passing through the portal's security (firewall/router) and
if authenticated by the Microsoft
®
Active Directory
®
Server, the user will be
logged on to the Enterprise Portal Web site by using the correct credentials.
Installation Roadmap
The following illustration shows the process of setting up and configuring a
Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 Enterprise Portal.

Verify Enterprise Portal Requirements
The Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 Enterprise Portal is created by using existing
Microsoft technologies, including:
• Internet Information Services (IIS), for the portal Web site.
• Windows SharePoint Services for the facilities to create
information sharing Web sites, document collaboration, and other
services.
• Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 Business Connector so that Microsoft
Dynamics AX 4.0 business logic and data can be accessed through
the portal.
• Active Directory for security and authentication.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites for deploying an Enterprise Portal are:
• Windows Server 2003 SP1
• Windows SharePoint Services SP2
• Business Connector .NET
• Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 Windows Client
• Connectivity to AOS
Before installing the Enterprise Portal server, the following must be available in
the domain:
• Active Directory service configured in native mode.
• For external user access to the Enterprise Portal, a perimeter network
domain with a firewall must have been configured.
Set Up the Business Connector Proxy User
To set up and configure the Business Connector proxy for Enterprise Portal,
users must:
• Create the proxy account in Active Directory.
• Add the proxy account to Internet Information Services (IIS) and
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services local Windows groups.
• Configure IIS.

• Configure Windows SharePoint Services, including changing the
SharePoint Services application pool identity.
• Configure the proxy account in Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0.
Create the Proxy Account in Active Directory Service
Create a proxy account in Active Directory on your domain controller so that
Business Connector can "act on behalf" of remote users. If the proxy account
does not exist in Active Directory, remote users cannot authenticate with
Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0.
Create a unique user in Active Directory in the form domain\username, for
example, myDomain\bcproxy. This user must not have the same name as an
existing user in Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0. For the procedure to add a new
user, see the Active Directory documentation.
1. Assign a password to the user.
2. Select the Password does not expire option.
3. Select the No interactive logon rights option.
4. Close Active Directory.
Add the Proxy Account
You must add the Business Connector proxy account to the IIS and Windows
SharePoint Services local Windows groups (IIS and WSS must be installed
before this).
1. Open the Computer Management application
START→ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS→COMPUTER MANAGEMENT.
2. Expand the Groups folder under Local Users and Groups.
3. Add the Business Connector proxy account to the following groups:
– IIS_WPG (IIS Worker Process Group)
– STS_WPG (STS Worker Process Group), if running Windows
SharePoint Services
– SPS_WPG (SPS Worker Process Group), if running SharePoint
