1 New dat-file format
The dat-file format was changed and enriched with several additional features. The most
important are:
• A better compression rate
• Higher module and signal numbers possible
• Any text information in the dat-file encoded in UTF-8 encoding
• Supported file size up to 64 GB
Important:
The files generated by ibaPDA-V7 can be opened with ibaAnalyzer v7.0.1 (or higher) only, and
are not supported by ibaAnalyzer-V6 and below. However, downward compatibility is
guaranteed and older dat-files created by ibaPDA-V6 can be opened with all versions of
ibaAnalyzer.
1.1 Dependencies
The following iba products do create the new dat-file format only:
• ibaPDA v7.0.0 or higher
• ibaAnalyzer v7.0.0 or higher (Export and Extract)
• ibaDatCoordinator v2.2.0 or higher (Splitter task)
• ibaFiles-V7-Pro
The new dat-file format cannot be opened or used with older iba products. Note that when using
the new dat-file format anywhere in your toolchain, all involved iba products need to support the
new dat-file format. The following products support the new dat-file format:
• ibaAnalyzer v7.0.0 or higher
• ibaDatCoordinator v2.2.0 or higher
• ibaHD-Server v2.3.0 or higher (if the dat-file import is used)
• ibaPDA v7.0.0 or higher (if the playback function or the ibaQPanel Offline trend graph is
used)
• ibaDaVIS v2.2.0 or higher (if dat-file signals should be visualized)
• ibaFiles-V7-Lite and ibaFiles-V7-Pro
1.2 Password protection
ibaAnalyzer-V7 and ibaPDA-V7 support the creation of password protected dat-files.
To open password protected files, ibaAnalyzer automatically opens a dialog to enter the file
password. For one session of ibaAnalyzer the password is remembered and automatically re-
applied to all opened files. The password can also be saved permanently over several sessions,
so that you don’t need to enter the password every time.

In order to clear the currently saved password from your system, use the “Clear data File
password” in the File menu. Note that this does not remove the password from the dat-file.
When exporting or extracting files you can enter a (new) password for the newly created files.
By leaving the password field empty, a file without password protection is created,
independently from the password protection of the original file.

1.3 QDR dat-files
The new dat-file format is also available for ibaQDR-V7.
In contrary to previous versions the signals now keep their original signal IDs and you don’t
need to prepend the measuring location to the signal IDs as in ibaQDR-V6.
In ibaAnalyzer-V7 you can still use the old prepended signal IDs to address the new ibaQDR-V7
signals. This means that old analyses that worked on ibaQDR-V6 files do still work when the
system is updated to ibaQDR-V7.
Another difference, is that in ibaQDR-V6 the time and length-based data were saved in two
separate signals. In ibaQDR-V7 the time and length-based data are saved in a single signal.
Therefore, time and length-based data can no longer be shown separately in the signal tree.
