Pro Access 2007
Dear Reader,
Pro Access 2007 takes you on your first steps into the future of not only Microsoft
Access, but also Microsoft Office—the future of Access and Office being tightly
coupled with the Internet, a vague concept called Web 2.0, and in particular
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. We start with what’s new in Access
2007 and end with Windows SharePoint Services. On the way, we look at working
with SQL Server 2005 and creating classes using VBA.
I wrote this book because I felt I had something to say about the best desktop
database development tool available. When I first looked at Access 2007, I knew
this product had a future, and when I looked at its integration with SharePoint
and SQL Server 2005, I knew that future was secure. From my dealings with
the Access team, I am more convinced than ever that Access plays a critical
role in Microsoft’s future strategy. Many developers may disagree with those
plans, particularly the focus on SharePoint and the Internet. All I ask is you try
the examples and use the information in this book to help you make a decision
based on what you can achieve with this combination of software. I hope this
book gets you started on many roads beyond your journey with Access: creating
classes using VBA, working with SQL Server, undertaking a little web design,
understanding a little .NET, and, of course, working with Windows SharePoint
Services.
