D.1 Automatically Starting the SI7 Driver
A. REQUIRED SOFTWARE
The SI7 driver requires the following software:
* Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 or greater,
Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6a or greater,
or Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or greater.
* Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater.
* Hardware key driver, if you are using a keyed Intellution product.
To determine if you need the hardware key driver on your computer,
you must identify which Intellution applications run on your computer.
Some Intellution applications require a hardware key, while others do not.
For example, the iHistorian Server requires a hardware key, but the
iHistorian Collector does not. If you are not sure if the applications
you are running require a hardware key, check the key requirements for each
application. If you determine that you need a hardware key, use the
information provided here to install a hardware key driver.
The November, 2002, Drivers CD and greater contains an option that lets you install
the device driver directly from the CD. Earlier Drivers CDs do not contain this
option, and the hardware key is not installed with the driver.
Similarly, if you install a SIM from Intellutions web site,
http://support.intellution.com/downloads/drivers, and you do not have a
hardware key driver installed, you must use the November, 2002, Drivers CD
or greater to obtain the device drivers for the hardware key.
If you are using the C-Plus B or the Super Pro hardware key, you may also
obtain the driver from the Rainbow Technologies web site, www.rainbow.com,
using these procedures as a guide:
[1] Point your browser to www.rainbow.com.
[2] Click Downloads at the bottom of the screen.
[3] Locate the Sentinel System Driver and then download it.
[4] Unzip the file and then run the setup program.
[5] Restart your computer when prompted. When the computer
starts up, install the driver using the instructions
on the screen.
IMPORTANT: Before you install a driver, be sure to close the
Power Tool and shut down all Intellution applications that check the
hardware key.
* The SI7 driver supports SIMATIC NET Industrial Communication
Software from the Siemens' July, 2001 + SP 4 CD (v6.0),
SIMATIC NET Industrial Communication Software from the Siemens'
May, 2000 CD (v5.x), and SIMATIC NET Industrial Communication Software
from the November 2002 CD (v6.1).
B. GENERAL INFORMATION
* If you are using Profibus communication and you enable the
PC is the Only Master on the Bus checkbox, you may encounter
network disruptions after reconnecting to your Profibus network.
Likewise, if you are using the MPI port to communicate and you
clear the PC is the Only Master on the Bus checkbox, S7 300 PLCs
may encounter network disruptions in their TCP or Industrial
Ethernet communication after reconnecting to the MPI network. In
both configurations, refer to your Siemens documentation for more
information on how to configure this checkbox for your application.
* Set the reply timeout in the Power Tool to 5 seconds or more to
ensure optimum ISO and TCP communication.
* The SI7 driver should be stopped before importing, reloading, or
generating a process database.
* The SI7 driver does not support Standby or Hibernation modes. You
can enable or disable these modes with the Power Options applet in
Control Panel.
* 7.x drivers no longer use the Period field in Mission Control.
Likewise, the Datascope button in Mission Control is not supported
for 7.x driver. Use the Power Tool's datascope instead.
* The SI7 driver has an Overruns field in the Power Tool at the
driver, channel, device, and datablock statistics level. You
can use this field as a troubleshooting tool to assist in
optimization. The presence of overruns do not necessarily
indicate a problem. Any of the following conditions can cause
overruns:
* Bandwidth saturation on your network.
* Turnaround delays in the PLC.
* Overflowing message queues in the process hardware.
Please refer to the SI7 Online Help for more information on
overruns. You can find information on overruns by displaying
the driver statistics in the Power Tool, selecting the Overruns
field, and pressing the F1 key.
* Do not install or uninstall a new version of the SI7 driver
while an old version is running. Always stop and exit the driver
before installing or uninstalling new version of the SI7 driver.
* All S5TI signal conditioning is displayed as TBCD signal
conditioning when you import a S_7 6.x driver configuration.
Likewise, if you enter S5TI as the signal conditioning you want
to use, it is converted automatically to TBCD signal conditioning.
C. KNOWN ISSUES
The SI7 driver has the following known issues:
* Siemens reports that SIMATIC NET 6.0 and 6.1 have timing issues when run as
a service. Consequently, you may experience problems running the
SI7 driver as a service when using SIMATIC NET 6.0 or 6.1. If you require
running as a service, Intellution recommends that you test your
configuration prior to deploying it to the factory floor.
Alternatively, you can use SIMATIC NET 5.x as a service without any
issue.
* At the time of release, the SI7 driver supports
exception-based processing for Analog Input and Digital Input
blocks only.
* Intellution does not recommend the use of the Auto Create option
when the Hardware Options field is used in the database to override
default data types. If you require Database Manager to create new
datablocks automatically, verify that all database blocks that use
the Hardware Options field reference valid datablock ranges.
* Starting the driver with a large configuration may cause a message
box with the following text to appear:
The driver can't start because it is processing a previous stop
request. Please try again.
This message appears because SIMATIC NET is cleaning up connections
from a previous stop request.
Once you dismiss the message box, wait for SIMATIC NET to clean up
all connections in the driver configuration. The amount of time
this requires depends on the protocol in use. ISO and TCP
communications can take up to 2 minutes to resolve themselves.
Once SIMATIC NET cleans up all the connections, you can start the
driver by selecting the Start button in the Power Tool.
D. TROUBLESHOOTING
Only use the SI7 server window for troubleshooting.
When you are not debugging a problem, disable all debug messages and
close the server window. Leaving debug messages enabled or leaving
the SI7 server window open degrades driver performance.
If you experience difficulty running the SI7 driver with FIX or iFIX
installed, refer to the following section for information on how to
resolve the problem.
D.1 AUTOMATICALLY STARTING THE SI7 DRIVER
When you install the SI7 driver, the installation program creates
a driver configuration file called nodename.SI7. FIX/iFIX uses this
file when you automatically start the driver. If you subsequently
change the name of your SCADA server after installing the driver,
FIX/iFIX cannot automatically start the driver because the name
of the node does not match the name of the configuration file. To
correct this, rename the configuration file to match the name of
your SCADA server. For example, if you change the name of the
SCADA server from SCADA
