Draft 4 of Supplement 2 to ARINC Specification 628: Cabin Equipment
Interfaces (CEI), Part 3, In-Flight Entertainment System (IFES) to Aircraft
System Interfaces
Summary
The ARINC Industry Activities (IA) staff prepared Draft 2 based on
recommendations from the CS Subcommittee meeting held May 25-28, 2010,
in Evreux, France and comments provided subsequent to that meeting.
Draft Supplement 2 primarily provides updates to add text to the original
ARINC Specification 628, Part 3 to include:
An Ethernet implementation of the CSS/IFE interface in Section 2
A new Section 7 to define this Ethernet interface
A new Attachment 2-3 that shows the Ethernet wiring diagram
New acronyms
All technical changes are shown in blue bold. The most current changes are
also highlighted. Text that has been deleted may or may not be shown in
strikethrough depending on the extent of the deletions. Previous
strikethroughs have been removed.

Prepared by the AEEC
Specification 628-2 Adopted by the AEEC Executive Committee: TBD
Preamble:
When this Supplement has been completed, adopted and published, Sections A, B and C will be affixed to the
end of the published Specification. These pages, currently numbered a, b, c…, are used to explain the changes
that will be made by this draft Supplement. The content of Sections A, B and C is under development in parallel
with the changes to the body of the existing standard. Therefore, changes to their content are shown in blue
bold in the same manner as changes to the body of the document.
Section A is written as it is expected to read when the Supplement is mature.
When the changes developed in this Supplement are integrated into the existing standard, they will be identified
by blue bold.
Section C contains a cumulative list of entries describing the changes to be incorporated by this Supplement.
Typically, Section C expands in size with each draft.

ARINC SPECIFICATION 628
PART 3
IN-FLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM (IFES) TO AIRCRAFT SYSTEM INTERFACES
Published: Month Day, Year
SUPPLEMENT 2 TO ARINC SPECIFICATION 628 – Page a
A. PURPOSE OF THIS DOCUMENT
This Supplement to ARINC628 Part 3 adds an Ethernet interface to the list of
standard interfaces between the aircraft Cabin Services System (CSS) and In-flight
Entertainment System (IFES).
B. ORGANIZATION OF THIS SUPPLEMENT
In this document blue bold text is used to indicate those areas of text changed by
the current Supplement only.
C. CHANGES TO ARINC SPECIFICATION 628P3 INTRODUCED BY THIS
SUPPLEMENT
This section presents a complete listing of the changes to the document introduced
by this Supplement. Each change is identified by the section number and the title as
it will appear in the complete document. Where necessary, a brief description of the
change is included.
1.2 Related Documents
Added more references.
2.2.4 Ethernet Interface
Added this section to introduce the Ethernet Interface between the CSS and IFES,
as one of the possible digital interfaces. Description is added to detail the use of
such an interface in particular to exchange information between CSS and IFES
regarding the Passenger Service System (PSS), Passenger Address/Entertainment
(PA/ENT), Airplane mode, Navigation data, and Operational Discretes.
7.0 Ethernet Interface Provisions
Added this section and subsections to describe, in detail, the interface between the
CSS and IFES. This entire section is based on an aircraft manufacturer ICD
(D620Z012-05) organized around the following sections:
7.1 Defines what the interface achieves, which messages are exchanged
7.2 Defines how the messages are exchanged and what systems are
required to do when they receive a given message
7.3 Defines the message format
7.4 Introduces digital security
All discrete besides the ones defined in the specification are labeled “Vendor
Specific” and their format is free (i.e., 1 bit vs. 2 bits).
IFE/CSS can NAK if a non valid seat output command is sent. The standard also
offers the option to drop the message.
Printer interface is consistent with the aircraft manufacture design and ARINC 808.
IP/MAC/port schemes are supported.
Power Up Message frequency made flexible between 1Hz and 10Hz.
ACK time made flexible between 100 ms and 500 ms.
IFE Power Control and Power Status removed.
SUPPLEMENT 2 TO ARINC SPECIFICATION 628 – Page b
Number of Audio streams from both IFES and CSS can now accommodate up to 10
PA Area.
The Global Test Abort Flag removed until proper cross-platform definition is given.
Support for redundant systems added.
New messages added to support new functionalities.
New discretes fields standardized to support extended functionalities.
ATTACHMENT 2-3 – ETHERNET INTERFACE
Added this a
ttachment as an example of Ethernet interface implementation to
support Section 2.2.4.
APPENDIX D - LIST OF ACRONYMS
Added new acronyms.
